China celebrates the European Union

(24 March 2017) The Italian Ambassador to China is participating in the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Rome Treaties. “We wish to extend the celebrations to China and contribute to spreading knowledge of the European Union among Chinese citizens". Two events will be taking place: an international conference at the University of Renmin organised by the Embassy in collaboration with the EU delegation. The University is home to one of the most specialised departments in European Studies. It will consist of two debate sessions introduced by the Vice President of Remnin Daxue, YiZhihong, the Head of the EU delegation in Beijing Hans Dietmar Schweisgut and Italian Ambassador to China Ettore Francesco Sequi. The speakers will hold a Q&A session with Chinese students about the EU. Other VIP guests include: Ambassadors of Belgium, Finland and the Czech Republic to China, Michel Malherbe, Marja Rislakki, and Bedrich Kopecky respectively; the director of the European Studies Department of the China Institute of International Studies Professor Cui Hongjian, and President of the European Chamber of Commerce in China, Joerg Wuttke. The conference is preceded by the inauguration of the exhibition “Ever closer Union: The legacy of the Treaties of Rome for the future of the EU” presented by Ambassador Sequi. The exhibition will remain open for two weeks and will then be travel to other Chinese universities. Tomorrow, Saturday 25th a happy-hour gathering “Noi, generazione Europa” will take place at 18:00 at the Italian Embassy to China. (red)


MEETING YOUNG STUDENTS FROM EUROPEAN STUDENT UNIONS IN CHINA

In collaboration with AGIC – the Association of Young Italians in China, the Italian Embassy will host a happy-hour event dedicated to young European students. In addition to members of AGIC, there will also be representatives from similar associations in Beijing, European students enrolled in Beijing Universities, European Embassy interns, Ambassadors of member states, and representatives from the European Delegation. During the happy-hour – introduced by the Italian Ambassador and the Head of the EU Delegation – students will be invited to talk about their experiences and personal views on Europe. They will be filmed and the video will be posted on Italian and Chinese social media platforms of the Embassy.
