(19 May 2017) Palaeontologist, naturalist, and writer: Alberto Angela is one of the most well known faces in Italian television as the host of history and science TV programmes loved by the public. For many years, his documentaries on the most hidden and least accessible corners of the world, discovering the beauties and mysteries of the Earth and her history have also been broadcast abroad. After his last visit to China in January last year, Alberto Angela will once again travel to Beijing to present the Chinese publication of "The Three Days of Pompeii" (2014). A conference will be held on May 31 at 6.30 pm in the theatre of the Italian Institute of Culture of Beijing, organised by the IIC with China Social Science Press. How did people live in Pompeii before the 79 A.D. eruption of Mount Vesuvius ? And how did people react they fury of the volcano? Retracing the steps of its inhabitants, Angela accompanies readers on the streets of the city in the hours before the tragedy. An effective way to illustrate stories and habits, reveal secrets and anecdotes and teach about the signs of an imminent earthquake. He goes through all the stages of the volcanic eruption, from volcanology to human reaction analysis. (Red)


EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCE


Alberto Angela's expertise and competence in the field of scientific journalism and communication has made him highly appreciated by the public. He is the author and conductor of "Ulisse", the science and historical TV programme on air since 2000 which won him the prestigious Flaiano Award for TV. He also received the international award "Portico d'oro-Jacques Le Goff" award for his history programmes. For over ten years, he has been involved in excavations and field research by participating in numerous international expeditions to Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Oman and Mongolia (in 1991, searching for the remains of dinosaurs and primitive mammals). He has written historical-scientific essays and published successful works including: "A Day in Ancient Rome: Daily Life, Secrets and Curiosities" (Una giornata nell'Antica Roma: vita quotidiana, segreti e curiosità) (2007), bestseller translated into English, Spanish, German, French, Russian, Chinese, Korean; Empire" (2010) and "A Trip to the Sistine Chapel" (Viaggio nella Cappella Sistina) (2013).
