Italy at the Night of European Literature with Simonetta Agnello Hornby

(June 23, 2017) It is all ready in Lisbon for the fifth edition of the Night of European Literature. Tomorrow, Saturday, June 24, eleven spaces in the Carmo / Trindade district will host a literary journey to the discovery of eleven contemporary European writers. Italy will be represented by Simonetta Agnello Hornby, who in the Sala do Brasão of the Museo de São Roque will read in Italian selected pieces from her latest novel "Caffè Amaro", translated and published in Portuguese with the title 'Café Amargo' by the publisher Clube do Autor, while actress Inês Lapa will read translations in Portuguese. The Night of European Literature is organized by the Cultural Institutes and Embassies that are part of the EUNIC Portugal network, including the Italian Cultural Institute, the British Council, the Camões - Instituto da Cooperação and Língua, the Austrian Embassy , The Embassy of the Czech Republic, the Embassy of Greece, the Goethe-Institut, the Institut Français du Portugal, the Instituto Cervantes, the Instituto Cultural Romeno and the Ibero-American Institute of Finland, to whom Associated with the Portuguese Representation of the European Commission. The readings will take place between 6.30 PM and 11.30 PM in the presence of some authors who will attend for the occasion. The texts will be read in the original language by the present authors and in the Portuguese translation by professional actors and alumni of the Lisbon and Latin Theater (ESTC) High School. All readings have free admission, lasting 10-15 minutes each and will be repeated every half hour to allow the public to visit all the spaces of the evening literary path. (PO / Red)


ABOUT / SIMONETTA AGNELLO HORNBY


Simonetta Agnello Hornby was born in Palermo and lives in London since 1972, where she has been a lawyer for minors and has been a part-time president of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal for eight years. She has published with Feltrinelli La Mennulara (2002), La zia marchesa (2004), Boccamurata (2007), Vento scomposto (2009), La monaca (2010), La cucina del buon gusto (con Maria Rosario Lazzati, 2012), Il veleno dell’oleandro (2013), Il male che si deve raccontare (con Marina Calloni, 2013), Via XX Settembre (2013) and Caffè amaro (2016). She has also published: Camera oscura (Skira, 2010), Un filo d’olio (Sellerio, 2011), La pecora di Pasqua (with Chiara Agnello; Slow Food, 2012), La mia Londra and Il pranzo di Mosè (Giunti, 2014). Her novels have been translated all over the world and have won numerous awards.
