Elena Ferrante’s Naples in Ottavio Sellitti’s photographs

(14 August 2017) Elena Ferrante’s landscapes featured in Berlin, Ottavio Sellitti’s photography exhibition “Where is Elena Ferrante?” will open on September 7th at 19:00 at the Italian Institute of Culture of Berlin. The exhibition focuses on Rione Luzzatti, the Eastern suburbs of Naples where Ferrante’s “L’amica geniale” is set. Rione Luzzati was built between the 1920s and 1960s. It is an area rich in dreams, violence, and excessive emotions which Ferrante utilises as a cautionary tale of the Western world. Sellitti’s analysis (2016) shows what is left from the dream of the economic boom: the buildings, the dusty streets, and the life of the inhabitants. The exhibition will remain open to the public until November 10th. The inauguration of the show follows the screens of the film “I giorni dell’abbandono” (2005) by Roberto Faenza based on Ferrante’s novel. The opening night will be attended by Selitti, Faenza, and the film producer Elda Ferri. (PO/Red)
