Education and culture, Italy and Malta renew their joint commitment

Italy and Malta confirm their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations in areas of culture and education. They do so through the Executive Programme of Cultural Cooperation that Italy's Ambassador to Malta, Giovanni Umberto De Vito and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malta, Ms Fiona Formosa signed for the three-year period 2017-2019. Among the goals of the Programme are university collaborations, language, disseminating the respective artistic cultures, and training on the themes of conservation and restoration of cultural heritage. "I am very pleased to be able to renew this Italian-Maltese cooperation protocol within a few weeks of the state visit President of the Republic Mattarella will make to Malta in mid-September," said Italian Ambassador Giovanni Umberto De Vito. "In the cultural field, Italy enjoys a privileged position compared to Malta, also due to the activities of the Italian Institute of Culture in the capital's main square, right in front of the Presidential Palace". "We want to encourage further Italian-Maltese collaborations in the field of science and research and that is why we work towards increasing the exchange of university docents and researchers, joint programmes between universities, specialised institutes and centres for advanced education" added Ambassador De Vito.

THE EXECUTIVE PROGRAMME

The Executive Programme envisages the granting of scholarships in the areas of science, humanities, the arts, design, restoration and bibliographic heritage. The direct collaboration between theatres and lyrical institutions, visits by experts and artists, festivals, training courses, residency programmes, and conferences will also be popular in the perspective of two major events such as Valletta and Matera the European Capitalsof Culture in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
