Toni Servillo, born in Afragola (Naples) in 1959, founded the Teatro Studio in Caserta, before the age of 20. Servillo went on to become one of the most sought-after actors by Italian directors. He became Sorrentino's actor of choice who also directs him in "Le conseguenze dell'amore" (The Consequences of Love) and "Il Divo". For the young director, Andrea Molaioli, he will star as a police chief investigating the cause of death of the "Ragazza del lago" (The Girl by the Lake), a 2008 David of Donatello winner. In the same year he appeared in Cannes for his role as Andréotti in "Il divo" and as a businessman in the Neapolitan mob in "Gomorra", winning the European Film Award as best actor for both roles. In 2013, he stars as Jep Gambardella in the Oscar winning film for best foreign film "La grande bellezza" (The Great Beauty) by Paolo Sorrentino, for which he also won his fourth David of Donatello and second European Film Award, and receiving the Hollywood Film Festival's nomination for Best Actor.
