Mar. 30 - Cairo is getting ready to host the second edition of the International Festival of Caricature, where this year the historical section is entirely dedicated to Italy, country of honor of 2015. The Cairo festival will feature  works by Giuseppe Scalarini (courtesy of his family), one of the greatest Italian cartoonists and satirists. Scalarini is considered the father of satirical cartoons related to Italian politics. He was a political cartoonist for the newspaper of the Italian Socialist Party,  Avanti! from 1911 to 1925, as well as a fervent pacifist and anti-militarist, severely persecuted by Fascism. The Festival brings together cartoonists Marco De Angelis, Pietro Giallombardo, Marilena Nardi and Andrea Pecchia for the occasion; and will feature works by artists and caricaturists of the likes of Samanta Bartolucci, Andrea Bersani, Giacomo Cardelli, Gianni Cloisters, Marco D'Agostino, Paolo Dalponte, Ivan Flammia, Emilio Isca, Roberto Mangosi and Liviano Riva. The events is held at the Cairo Opera House, and the inauguration is scheduled for Sunday, April 5. The Italian participation was planned and organized by the Italian Institute of Culture in collaboration with the Cultural Association "Promo Italia".

BRINGING TOGETHER ARTISTS FROM 63 COUNTRIES

On April 5, the museum of the Cairo Opera House will host the vernissage of the second edition of the International Festival of Caricature. The event, organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Egyptian Society of Caricature, features Italy as the country of honor. The event, which has booked the participation of artists from over 63 countries, will have an important resonance in the Cairo area.
