Italian music in Portugal

(20 june 2018)On the occasion of the 2018 Music Festival, organised by MiBACT to celebrate music in all its genres internationally, the Italian Institute of Culture of Lisbon organised a day dedicated to Italian music. The IIC will present the Canzone Italiana by Marcello Sacco, Professor of Italian language at the Conservatory of Lisbon. At 19:00, the Italian Language and Culture Diplomas will be conferred to the finalists of the IIC courses accompanied by a concert of "Le cose semplici. Viaggio nella canzone italiana" (The Simple Things. A Journey Through Italian Song) by Duo "FFFFF", Francesco di Carlo (accordion), and Florent Manneveau (saxophone). The repertoire claims to honour some of the greatest Italian artists, such as the singer-songwriters Paolo Conte, Vinicio Capossela, and Fabrizio De André, but also the great masters of cinema scores like Ennio Morricone or Nino Rota, including Italian popular music, from which many of the most famous contemporary composers and interpreters have drawn and still draw inspiration seamlessly with the musical heritage that preceded them.
