Italy, along with the rest of the world, has expressed its condolences to the English people, who have recently suffered the loss of their monarch, Queen Elizabeth. Even more so because there are over 700,000 Italians living in the United Kingdom who have developed a strong sense of affection for the Queen. A representative sample of one thousand Italians, conducted by SWG, a market analysis and research company, on behalf of the British Embassy in Rome, also confirms the attachment of Italians. Even after Brexit, the research revealed that Italians continue to view the United Kingdom favorably. Eight out of ten Italians hope that the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union will not affect their relationship with London. In fact, many believe that continued collaboration on specific issues, such as research and innovation, trade and investment, climate and energy, is essential. The SWG report indicates that six out of ten Italians (57%) have visited the United Kingdom at least once within the past five years. Of these, nearly all (93%) would return (+7% compared to the previous year), while 80% of those who have spent at least a year there speak positively of their experience (only 3% feel negatively). Over one-half of Italians claim to have at least one relative, friend, or acquaintance living in the United Kingdom. When an Italian thinks of London's landmarks, the Queen and her story are indisputable. If necessary, we could use the interest and curiosity generated by the Platinum Jubilee, the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's accession to the throne, to administer a test. An analysis of the number of Google searches reveals that, after the Irish and the Maltese, Italians were the most interested in the event. According to the study's findings, Italians conducted the most monthly searches for terms containing the word Royal: 456,960, or 7,557 per million people.
