Twenty-two years after the opening of military careers to women, the first female Army Officers are preparing to assume the battalion command. In 2000, in fact, female staff had been admitted to all categories and all roles, command and base, making the Italian recruitment one of the most advanced models in the world with regard to equal opportunities. After leading the smaller Army units, platoons and companies, the new Battalion Commanders are taking up their duties, in line with the expected career progression, in units of the training and operational area. As of December 31, 2021, the Army frames in its units more than 7,500 women, who make up 8% of the force. By the end of 2022, on the entire national territory, there will be 7 female officers in command of battalions of the Army.
