Italy is one of the countries most frequently targeted by cybercriminals. In the first half of 2022, it ranks first in Europe and seventh worldwide in terms of ransomware attacks. This is revealed by Trend Micro Research's report on cyber threats for the first semester of 2022, titled "Defending the Expanding Attack Surface." In the first half of 2022, there were 8,032,336 ransomware interceptions worldwide. In this sense, the top ten countries by percentage of ransomware intercepted are as follows: United States (19.69%), Japan (10.18%), Turkey (7.97%), India (5.11%), Taiwan (4.29%), Mexico (4.00%), Italy (3.56%), Netherlands (3.26%), France (3.08%), and Germany (2.96%). Moreover, 34,628 malicious apps were downloaded in the first half of 2022. Italy was hit by 3,324 different types of online banking malware. Exploiting vulnerabilities is one of the most common ransomware attack vectors. The three most affected sectors were government, manufacturing, and healthcare.
