Yesterday, Enel - an Italian multinational energy company - opened a lab in Tel Aviv to investigate novel uses of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics in renewable energy and electricity distribution networks. The Enel AI&Robotics Lab is the Group's fourth innovation initiative to be launched in Israel. The lab is conveniently situated in the heart of Tel Aviv, making it ideal for startups to conduct research and development on their miniaturized robots, drones, and sensors. The Lab will encourage the growth of AI and robotics technologies, particularly those geared toward renewable energy automation and digitalization, network construction and operation as well as the creation of innovative and sustainable materials. It will host newly launched startups and provide them with technical and commercial validation through access to test sites, actual data, expert knowledge, hardware, and software. The objective is to transform the Enel-selected startups serving as solution providers into global scale-ups. In addition, the Lab will collaborate with local universities, businesses, and innovation communities to interact with the Israeli ecosystem and to host workshops and meetings to delve deeper into the challenges and use cases for which Enel seeks highly innovative solutions. From the time it opened its first Innovation Hub in Tel Aviv in August 2016, Enel has been actively involved in the Israeli ecosystem. The Group has since partnered with a multitude of Israeli start-ups.
