With three golds and one bronze medal, Italy ranks second in the medal table of the World Butcher's Championships. The Italian team's return from the United States, where the World Butcher's Championships were held, is more than positive, as they return with four medals and important confirmations. Only Germany performed better. Following Italy were countries with a strong tradition of eating meat, such as Ireland, Great Britain, and France. Italy has won three gold medals for "Best lamb preparation," "Best chicken preparation," and "Best technique in the “disosso”(literally de-boning)," the latter of which was won by Sicilian butcher Gianni Giardina of Canicattì. Claudio Fidone won a bronze medal in the Young Butcher category. The eighth edition of the World Butcher's Championships was held in Sacramento, California in 2022. This competition was attended by thirteen nations from around the globe. "The significant result of this competition demonstrates that Italy is a country where excellent butchers are born, skilled artisans who are able to excel in front of international audiences and judges - as explained by Orlando di Mario, butcher of Sermoneta and president of the Italian National Butchers Association - I am confident that this result will contribute to the national expansion of the entire category. I recall that a skilled butcher is an integral part of the entire food chain. If a butcher does a good job, the results can be seen from the family kitchen to a Michelin-starred restaurant. Having a skilled butcher also permits ethical and responsible meat consumption ", concludes di Mario.
