A global strike for the environment. Today's mobilization is being organized by the Fridays For Future climate justice movement. "People are waking up after four years of strikes, but political leaders are standing still" according to Catania activist Alice Quattrocchi."We have organized marches and met with politicians, and we aspire every day to make an impact and inform the public about what will occur in the coming decades. Today, we face new elections, but the climate crisis remains absent from the discussion. The more we discuss climate, the more the major parties appear to compete to ridicule us with fine words in support of the environment, but without a comprehensive plan, instead requesting new regasification terminals or other measures that accelerate the climate catastrophe". According to FFF supporters "CO2 emissions are not decreasing but are on the rise; the world continues to expand fossil fuel infrastructure and pour astronomical sums of money in favor of a few companies and in the name of their extra-profits, which amount to 700% of normal earnings. In this context, a climate and social justice plan that prioritizes people over profit is required ". Fridays For Future invited all associations, trade unions, and movements in every city to join and actively participate in the strike. In addition, in light of the upcoming elections, Fridays For Future Italia has compiled in the Climate Agenda a set of proposals that should be incorporated into each program and considered by each candidate in order to address the climate emergency, focusing on five fundamental themes: transportation and mobility, energy, work, construction and energy poverty, and – last but definitely not least - water.
