There are 4,746 candidates in the general election that will take place in Italy on Sunday. However, there are more candidacies (6,347) since the law allows candidates to be in a single-member college and in 5 multi-member colleges. As for the lists, the one with the highest ratio between the number of candidates and the number of applications is Noi Moderati (89.7), while the one with the lowest ratio is Impegno Civico (37.5%). As Openpolis explains, 44.3% are women candidates. "As required by law, no gender is represented more than 60%. This, however, does not necessarily mean that this quota will also be respected at the level of elected parliamentarians. Among multiple candidacies and positions in the proportional lists, the women elected in parliament in the last term have been less than the female candidates" it reads in the analysis. One in seven are candidates under 40 years of age (14.6% of the total). The youngest candidates were from Unione Popolare and Movimento 5 stelle (21.1% and 19.9% respectively), while the lowest quotas are recorded by Italexit (11.7%) and the center-right coalition (12.3%).
