The National Consumers Union analyzed the Istat statistics issued yesterday on September's annual inflation rate in order to rank the price rises of food and non-food items. For the top 30 non-food items, the free market electricity ranks first for the first time with an astonishing +136.7% increase, once again surpassing the protected market in fifth position with a considerably smaller +57.7% increase. In a nutshell, this translates to an annual cost of 863 euros per family in the unprotected against 362 euros in the protected, which is more than twice, 2.4 times greater. In second position are European flights, which will increase by 128% by September 2021, followed by intercontinental flights, which will increase by 97.4%. In fourth place is city gas (free + protected) with an increase of + 63.7%, whereas the protected of + 43%, demonstrating once again that, even for gas, the increase in the free market is much greater than that of the protected, with the exception of those with fixed-price contracts that have not been modified. LPG and methane ranked sixth with a growth rate of 46.4%, followed by diesel for heating (+43.6%), cameras (+24.8%), and DVD movies and movie downloads (+21.8%). Desktop computers conclude the list with a +21.3% increase. Then there is diesel for vehicles (11th, +19.8%), followed by hotels and motels (12th, +19.5%), the first item associated with vacations if we exclude travel. Transport by sea (15th, +16.6%), domestic flights (18th, +15.5%), and refrigerators (20th, +15%) are the industries with the highest growth rates. Due to the shortage of new car sales and components, the value of used gasoline-powered automobiles has increased by 13% compared to a year earlier (diesel-powered automobiles have increased by 9%, while hybrid and electric vehicles have increased by 7.2%).
