If the current growth trend continues, Italian agri-food exports will surpass 60 billion in 2022, setting a new historical record, despite the fact that the effects of the conflict in Ukraine are concerning, with energy price increases affecting global production and consumption, while the EU Commission proposes a dynamic and temporary gas price cap to reduce price volatility. This is what emerges from the research of Coldiretti based on Istat statistics on foreign commerce for the first eight months of 2022, which indicate an increase of +20% despite the Russian conflict and international tensions affecting the global trade of products and services. Germany is the largest market for food outlets, growing by 14% from January to August, followed by the United States, which grew by 20%, and France, which ranks third but grew by 20%, according to Coldiretti. Positive results in the United Kingdom with a 19% increase demonstrate that Italian exports proved to be more resilient than Brexit, despite the early challenges associated with the EU withdrawal.
