"There are 790 workers who from January to September 2022 lost their lives from the north to the south of the country with an average of 88 victims per month; they were 85 until August 2022. A tragic average that, in addition to increasing compared to the previous month, underlies over 20 deaths per week and about three fatal injuries per day. There are 574 fatal accidents at work and 216 coming up. Last year, the total number of deaths was 910, so seemingly we are experiencing a decrease in mortality (- 13%). However, one cannot help but point out and remember that this year the Covid victims almost disappeared (14 out of 677 according to the latest data available at the end of August 2022) which, on the other hand, tragically constituted more than a third of the deaths at work (271 out of 772) last year. And this means only one thing: after the pandemic emergency, the one of insecurity at work remains ". It is through the numbers that Mauro Rossato, President of the Vega Engineering Occupational Safety Observatory in Mestre, presents the most recent and detailed survey carried out by the experts of his team to describe the tragedy of fatal accidents in our country.
