The Pope's appeal to the crowd gathered in a sunny St Peter's Square today in the greetings of the post Angelus to transport the faithful to the tormented Somalia with his words is dramatic: “As we celebrate Christ's victory over evil and death, let us pray for the victims of the terrorist attack that killed more than a hundred people in Mogadishu, including many children. May God convert the hearts of the violent." Five years later, in the same place, another massacre of innocents is mourned. The double attack that hit a busy intersection of the Somali capital Mogadishu yesterday afternoon, in front of the Ministry of Education, caused over a hundred victims and over 300 injuries. Two car bombs exploded a few minutes apart. The attack was claimed by the al-Shabaab group, linked to al-Qaeda, which targeted the ministry as an "enemy base" that receives support from non-Muslim countries and that "is committed to removing Somali children from the Islamic faith." In the past, the group had declared that it would continue its terrorist action until the creation of an Islamic state governed by Sharia law.
