Over the next two years, 75.3% of Italians are willing to move to an electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid. This is what emerges from a Prima Assicurazioni survey, commissioned to Nielsen. Not so much the price of energy (10.6% of respondents) is preventing the purchase of electric vehicles as the price of electric vehicles, which is still deemed too expensive by over 31.3% of the sample. This is followed by the request for more incentives from the government (17.7%) and enough infrastructure (15.7%), two more considerations that could prompt a reassessment at the present time. These numbers are accompanied by 24.7% of respondents who would not purchase an electric vehicle in the next two years, even under these circumstances, since they believe this technology is still unstable or because they continue to favor gasoline or diesel engines. Taking a closer look at the poll sample, only one-fifth of respondents between 30 and 40 years old would not even contemplate the possibility of switching to an e-car (19.9%); the youngest respondents are therefore more likely to make the transfer. 24.7% of thirty-to-forty-year-olds require institutions to promise more incentives; yet, this commitment has larger weight for this age group. Italians between the ages of 50 and 60 are the most attached to conventional automobiles, with 29.4% ignoring the new electric motors
