Saturday was the day of peace in Italy. Or at least the marches for peace: that of Milan - organized by the so-called political "third pole", headed by former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and Carlo Calenda - and that of Rome, non-partisan but to which the center-left parties have participated. Roughly 100 thousand people marched through the streets of the capital according to the promoters (the Police Headquarters talks instead of about 40 thousand presences). The rally in Rome was organized by the Europe for Peace network, which underlined the event's pillars: "We recognize the Ukrainian resistance, we are dedicated to help, support and assist the Ukrainian people, and stand with the victims. We support individuals who reject the logic of warfare and choose nonviolence. Russia's inexcusable invasion of Ukraine has brought back to the heart of Europe the war that is destined to escalate into a worldwide battle between armed blocs, with catastrophic implications for the Ukrainian, Russian, and European peoples. We are near and in solidarity with the afflicted people, with the displaced people, with the refugees forced to escape, to forsake their homes, their employment, victims of bombs, abuse, discrimination, rape, and torture".
