How many refugees have entered Europe? And how many are there in Italy? According to statistics from the International Organization for Migration, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Ministry of Labour, more than half of European migrants arrive in Italy and mostly by sea. As of November 4, 2022, 87,370 migrants have arrived in Italy this year, with 9,930 of them being unaccompanied foreign kids. Up to October 31st, 149,102 migrants have landed in Europe within the same period. In terms of the goals of people coming in Europe, the data is reversed: the biggest number of asylum petitions in 2022 was registered in Germany, with 114 thousand applications, while Italy remains stuck at 37 thousand. To these estimates must be added those pertaining to the Ukraine situation, which the UNHCR considers to be the biggest refugee catastrophe since World War II. Since February 24, 7,785,514 Ukrainians fleeing the conflict have arrived in Europe, with 4,460,847 requesting temporary asylum. Poland has received 1,469,032 Ukrainian registrations, Germany has received 1,008,935 registrations, and the Czech Republic has received 455,731 registrations. According to the Interior Ministry, Italy has received 171,546 migrants so far.
