The manager Giuseppe Bono, historical figure of the Italian industry, at the helm of Fincantieri for over twenty years, dies at 78. A few months ago, Pierroberto Folgiero had replaced him at the top of the group based in Trieste. The Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto gave the news on Twitter: "Giuseppe Bono, ‘Peppino’, passed away. A fraternal friend, great man, extraordinary captain of industry. He dedicated his whole life to building wealth for Italy. I met him as soon as I arrived in Fincantieri, which was in serious difficulty. Now it has the best products in the world." Born in Pizzoni, Calabria, in 1944, with a degree in Economics and Commerce and another recent honoris causa in naval engineering, Bono had been at the top of Fincantieri from April 2002 until April this year. He came from Finmeccanica, where he had entered in 1993 helding various roles: from 1997 to 2000 he had been General Manager and then CEO for two years. His career would lead him to become a long-term manager in 1963 with training and education in the administrative and management control area at Fiat-Finmeccanica, then joining Omeca (Fiat-Finmeccanica Group, Efim from 1968) and then from 1971 to 1993 in Efim. Giuseppe Bono has given a fundamental contribution to the relaunch of the Italian shipbuilding industry that today can boast undisputed world leadership.
