The economic impact of immigration in our country is equal to 9% of GDP, and the fiscal impact is good for 1.4 billion people. Data demonstrating how "promoting regularity and integration is the best way to help our country." This is what the Leone Moressa Foundation's 2022 Annual Report on the Economy of Immigration shows. The report was given to the Chamber yesterday. The report also shows that the number of foreigners living in Italy has stayed about the same over the past few years, at around 5 million. Most new arrivals are for family reunification, while those coming to work have been going down for years (although recovering in 2021). There are 2.2 million foreign workers, which is 10% of the total. Most of them work hard, dangerous, and low-paying jobs, so much so that 28% of them are at risk of poverty. On the other hand, there are more than 753 thousand immigrant business owners, which is 10% and a number that keeps growing (with a greater presence in construction, commerce and in the hotel-restaurant sector).
