Snowfall in the Alps owing to adverse weather drives international tourism, with arrivals from abroad increasing by 71% in summer 2022, totaling 25.3 million travelers who have crossed national borders. This is the conclusion of a Coldiretti analysis based on Bankitalia data for the summer of 2022 (June, July, and August), which shows a significant recovery in tourism, despite arrivals remaining 23% fewer than in 2019, the year before the pandemic. The increase in arrivals is supported by the fact that foreigners spent $16.9 billion in the three summer months, a 39% increase compared to the same period in 2018 and the same level as 2019 prior to the pandemic.
