The Australian Emma Summerton is the photographer of the Pirelli 2023 calendar presented in Milan at the Bicocca hangar. The protagonists are 14 women carrying their dreams, their difficulties, their extraordinary normality on the coated paper. "In my shots, the boundary between the role that models play and what they really are is not defined and everything merges into images that evoke magical realism," explains the photographer, who draws inspiration from the world of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. "Love Letters to the Muse", this is the name of the 49th example of the mythical TheCal, is a tribute to women who arouse admiration and emulation and who, as in ancient Greece, embody at the same time the arts and disciplines in a supernatural and symbolic perspective: instead of Melpomene, Talia and Calliope, there is the Seer, the Photographer, the Queen, the Tech Savant, the Painter, the Athlete, the Writer, the Performer, the Sprite, the Musician, the Storyteller, the Sage, the Dream Catcher and the Activist. The women called to represent these modern and fairytale ideals are all personally linked to the impersonated "divinity": Emily Ratajkowski, for example, is really a writer, after the successful experience of the volume My Body, just as Ashley Graham has been for years an activist of body positivity; Sasha Pivovarova is a real painter, Guinevere VanSeenus a photographer, and so on for all the women involved in the project.
