The countdown is almost over for the most controversial World Cup in football history. Qatar 2022 will start on Sunday with a game between the hosts and Ecuador. Italy will not be there. Never, as in this edition, do extra-football motives appear to outweigh solely sports ones. The main topics, for now, are civil rights and probable demonstrations, not just for Qatar's tough rules, rather than possible formations or the physical conditions of the players. Iran's first game will be against England on Monday, and the issue of women's rights in Iran already seems to be getting a lot of attention. Also controversial is the security at the stadiums. According to the press, the organizers would have forcefully recruited homosexual people as security agents in return for ending the prohibitions and violence against them.
