"Today (yesterday, ed.) we celebrate the World Day for the Rights of Children and Adolescents. An extremely important anniversary, which we intend to celebrate by confirming the Government's commitment to guarantee children and adolescents the enjoyment of the rights enshrined in the UN Convention and often denied or not insured as they should". Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni sent a message yesterday to commemorate the World Day of the Rights of Children and Adolescents, confirming the centrality of the theme for her government programme. "The pandemic crisis, the difficult economic context that has arisen and the complex international situation in which we find ourselves are profoundly affecting our economic and social fabric," Meloni wrote. "They have aggravated known issues, from poverty to inequalities, and created new emergencies. Children and young people are paying the highest price. Data and statistics agree that the severe social restrictions imposed during the pandemic have had a severe impact on the health and psychological well-being of children and youngsters. We should not forget, moreover, the worsening spread of pathological addictions, the growing phenomenon of bullying and baby gangs as well as the impact of social networks and new technologies." "We must help our children to understand the double face of the web, an instrument not to condemn a priori but that must be made safe, so as to protect children and youngsters from the insidious traps of cyberbullying and online child pornography.” concluded the Prime Minister. “The Government intends to establish a working group with all the ministries and competent institutions to draw up an operational and concrete action plan. Giving new centrality to children and young people is a priority: a momentous challenge, which we intend to take forward because the future of our nation depends on the ability to respond to the needs of the young generations".
