On November 19, 1955, "Lascia o doppio," a quiz game hosted by Mike Bongiorno, debuts on Rai, destined to become a true custom sensation, catalyzing the general public's interest. This is shown by the fact that the broadcast had to be shifted from Saturday evening to Thursday evening at the request of managers of public places who had seen a major drop in revenue since a huge portion of the people opted to assemble in front of the little screen rather than go out. Participants in the game portrayed themselves as experts on a certain issue. They showed up one at a time and played on their own. One new thing about "Lascia o raddoppia" was the character of the "valletta", a showgirl who was first played by Maria Giovannini and then by Edy Campagnoli, who became one of the public's favorites.
