The social campaign "Health is built from children" aimed at school-aged children and their families. The initiative is promoted by the National Center for Disease Prevention and Health Promotion of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità as well as by the IRCCS Maternal Infantile Burlo Garofolo of Trieste and financed by the Ministry of Health as part of "Guadagnare salute," one of the projects of the National Center for the prevention and control of diseases. According to ISS-coordinated "OKkio alla Salute" surveillance data, one in three Italian children is overweight. One in ten Italian children (9%) skips breakfast, and approximately one-third (36%) consumes an inadequate breakfast, which is unbalanced in terms of carbohydrates (cookies or cereals) and proteins (milk or yoghurt). This results in an increased propensity for snacking and lunchtime overeating. 26 percent of children walk or bicycle to school. This may be influenced by the school's proximity, but the lack of propensity for active mobility represents a missed opportunity for children to engage in a little movement in the morning, which is essential for their learning and concentration. 55% of children consume a midmorning snack that is excessively nutrient-dense, i.e. high in fats and sugars. If you consume an excessively caloric snack, you run the risk of not being hungry for your next meal, thereby unbalancing the amount of food consumed throughout the rest of the day and increasing the likelihood of overweight and obesity.
