Synthetic "meat", but also dishes based on insects, the "nutriscore" label that rejects olive oil, dealcoholized wines, as well as kits with powders to make wine and cheese: it seems there are no limits to the global follies in cooking. This is what Coldiretti denounces, on the occasion of the opening of the XX International Forum of Agriculture and Food in Rome, by setting up a real gallery of "horrors" on the tables of Italians, which risk forever upsetting the dietary style of the Mediterranean Diet and the national production system based on quality and millennial traditions. The EU has already authorized the sale of domestic crickets (Acheta domesticus) as a novel food to be brought to the table. The insect may be produced and sold on the entire EU market, frozen, dried or powdered and intended for marketing as a snack or food ingredient. After the mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) and the migratory locust, it is the third green light in the Union for the human food use of an insect pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 on Novel Food. The horror on a global level can also reach the plate in various forms - explains Coldiretti - from scorpion vodka to Italian-style worms, from beetles to thai-style crickets, from the golden scorpion to insects with paprika, sea salt or curry, from palm worms to the giant worm, from centipedes to cricket pasta , from mixed insects to crickets in barbecue sauce.
