Only 1.7% of companies in Europe have taken out an environmental risk policy. This is said by UNI, the Italian standardization body, explaining that "a literacy process on the subject of environmental damage for organizations has started from Italy and has reached the European Commission in Brussels". "The innovative Made in Italy certification on corporate environmental responsibility, which has been implemented and developed by the Pool Ambiente consortium in collaboration with UNI was presented in advance in front of the 27 EU Environment Ministers.” The consortium of Coriassicurazione was born after the environmental disaster of Seveso in 1979 and is a center of excellence for know-how on environmental risks and accidents. Among the main objectives, the instrument aims to drastically reduce the number of cases of environmental damage caused by companies (-73%), bringing them almost to zero, to push companies of all sectors and sizes to implement measures to prevent and protect natural resources with the best cost-benefit ratio and to encourage them to provide insurance coverage against environmental risks in order to manage them more effectively".
