Femicide, or the killing of a woman as a woman by her partner or an ex, or by a family member, is a scourge that in Italy does not even close this year. On the contrary, by cross-referencing the data of some of the reports published on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to be today, it is noted that the problem is becoming more and more topical and worsening. In fact, if last year the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) had recorded that the number of women killed in a couple or family relationship had been exactly 100, there have already been 104 victims from the beginning of 2022 until yesterday. The data come from the report "Prejudice and Violence against Women" prepared by the Criminalpol of the Public Security Department. Disaggregated data also shudder: 58.8% of women are victims of a partner or former partner, whose age is certainly not high (more than one murderer in four is in the 31-44 age group) and dampens some of the hopes linked to a cultural change of the new generations. Also for this reason, yesterday the Senate unanimously approved, with 139 votes in favor, the bill for the establishment of a Bicameral Commission of Inquiry on femicide.
