In the intangible heritage of UNESCO soon there could also be the cult of Saint Gennaro. On Saturday, the Archbishop of Naples Cardinal Domenico Battaglia officially announced the candidacy of the city's patron saint known throughout the world for his “Miracle of blood”. The candidacy is supported by the Minister for Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano and the mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi. The Miracle of blood, that is, its liquefaction, takes place three times a year: on September 19, the day on which San Gennaro is celebrated, on the Saturday preceding the first Sunday in May, and on December 16, a date reminiscent of the intervention of the patron who in the seventeenth century stopped the eruption of Vesuvius and thus saved the city. Before the procession, the archbishop shows the ampule to the crowd of faithful gathered in the Cathedral. If the blood melts, it is considered a good sign; otherwise, there will be misfortune and trouble for the city and its inhabitants. Now all the Neapolitans are waiting for the miracle at UNESCO.
