“No less than 242 extreme events hit the Peninsula in November due to bad weather, including water bombs, storms, windstorms, tornadoes and hailstorms that hit an area made more fragile by the abandonment and overbuilding that have reduced the rain absorption capacity and endangered the environment and the safety of citizens with landslides and floods“: this is what the complaint denounces Coldiretti in expressing deep condolences for the victims caused by the landslide to Ischia. A confirmation of the climate change underway with a tendency to tropicalization that – underlines Coldiretti – manifests itself with a higher frequency of violent demonstrations, seasonal mismatches, the rapid transition from sunshine to bad weather and short and intense rainfall with over 9 municipalities out of 10 in Italy (93.9% of the total) which have part of the territory in areas at hydrogeological risk due to landslides and floods, according to data ISPRA. This issue is undoubtedly connected to the fact that in the previous 50 years, almost one-third of all agricultural land (-30%) has vanished, reducing Italy's viable agricultural area to only 12.8 million hectares.
