From spring to fall, the weekend at Lavazza's Nuvola in Turin will be a little longer. With the recent approval of a new supplementary contract, the well-known coffee brand has started a new policy called "short Friday." Employees will be able to leave work early on Fridays by using some of their individual rest days from the national contract. This will last for fifteen weeks, from May to September. The company has chosen to put more emphasis on one aspect of agile work: the usage of Smart Working. Under the terms of a new agreement with the unions, employees may utilize Smart Working for up to ten days each month. "An agile working model that remains focused on coordination between worker and firm via personal responsibility, the smallest number of essential regulations, and autonomy in attaining goals, as well as the usage of corporate spaces, will also be pushed as a means of increasing cooperation among colleagues," explains Lavazza. The company's welfare system allows workers to use paid leave to do medical exams, and an extra sixteen hours will be made available for "caregiving" activities, such as accompanying family members and relatives / cohabitants to medical appointments both outside and within the hospital. Additionally, Lavazza will provide four hours each year for veterinary care and support for pets. In terms of maternity and paternity, it offers extra instruments to help family management by offering an additional five days of mandatory paternity leave, fully compensated and covered by the firm, in addition to the ten days previously provided for by law.
