Former cyclist Davide Rebellin died at 51 on November 30 hit by a truck in Montebello Vicentino, in the province of Vicenza. The heavy vehicle would exit a nearby highway junction, hitting and running over Rebellin on his bicycle, killing him instantly. The driver did not stop after the impact, but it is not clear whether he noticed the accident or not. Rebellin was born in Lonigo in 1971. After 30 years of professionalism, he had interrupted his career just over a month ago, after joining the Veneto Classic race. In 2004, he won the Amstel Gold Race in eight days, then the Flèche-Wallonne race (which he won twice more) and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. His career as a professional began in 1992, at the age of 21. Since then, he had collected 70 wins, a junior jersey in the 70 km ride in 1989, had been in pink jersey for six days in the 1996 Giro d'Italia, and had participated twice in the Olympic Games.
