In Italy, 77,493 children are in charge of social services for ill-treatment. 91.4% of abuses occur within the family. These are the most up-to-date data on child violence in Italy, from the second National Survey on Child and Adolescent Abuse carried out by Terre des Hommes Foundation and CISMAI center, mandated by the Guarantor Authority for Children and Adolescents. The latest dossier shows that, in 2021, the number of child victims of crime exceeded 6,000 cases (6,248). The numbers reveal the epidemiological dimension of violence against children in our country and confirm the urgency of working to prevent this phenomenon. Starting from this dramatic finding, yesterday CNR IRIB Institute of Catania, the Italian Society of Pediatrics and the Terre des Hommes Foundation launched the national awareness campaign against child abuse "Invisible to the eyes". Starting from December 5 and for 28 days, the campaign will be disseminated through advertising messages on trams and buses in the cities of Bologna, Catania, Florence, Genoa, Milan, Naples, Rome and Turin and through posters in Catania. In addition, a video spot will contribute to the initiative: it will be transmitted through social media and through digital screens of the main accommodation facilities of the national territory, such as airports, football stadiums, shopping centers, sports halls and urban screens.
