In the absence of the national team led by Roberto Mancini, the Armed Forces will represent Italy in Qatar 2022. The Italian military, already operational before the kick-off with checks carried out on 5 of the 8 stadiums and in the waters of the port of Doha , are present in the Arab country with Operation Orice: a bilateral support mission to the Armed Forces of Qatar with the aim of preventing terrorist acts that may target stadiums, airports, ports and civilian infrastructures. Two task forces are involved: one on the ground led by Brigadier General Giuseppe Bossa, with soldiers from the Army’s Sassari Brigade and hi-tech systems from the Air Force; the other at sea led by Fregate Captain Emanuele Morea, with the multi-purpose offshore patrol vessel Thaon di Revel. Coordinating everything was the Operational Command of the Joint Defense Forces, led by Army Corps General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo. Our correspondent in Doha Chiara Soldi visited the base, about 30 km from the city, to tell us about the great work of the 560 soldiers who are protecting the World Cup.
