Record numbers are expected for the opening evening of the Teatro alla Scala season in Milan, which has always attracted stars, intellectuals and political personalities from all over the world. The season opens on December 7 with the Russian opera “Boris Godunov”, by Modest Musorgsky. A strong presence of politicians is expected, as well as a fair number of those from the world of entertainment and fashion. The trifle of presidents is certain: the Royal Stage will host the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, who had already confirmed his presence months ago, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and, surprisingly, the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The “Boris Godunov” will be conducted by Maestro Riccardo Chailly, and directed by Kasper Holten; the sets are designed by Es Devlin, while the Russian bass Ildar Abdrazakov will be in the main role of the Tsar of all Russia. Dominique Meyer, Superintendent of La Scala, explained the choice of the work. “We do not advertise to Russian President Vladimir Putin - said Meyer - the current political situation in Russia is something different from a great masterpiece of art history. There is nothing in this opening that goes against Ukraine. We have made a reasonable decision: as read in the booklet of the work, it does not advocate the regime but rather the opposite". In the meantime, the Milan Theatre's box office and external relations managers are working to satisfy the audience's requests. It will be necessary to wait until the evening of the 7th to know with what surprise La Scala will welcome its guests: last year the theater was decorated with 10,000 roses and 3,000 orchids. The same goes for the spectators and how they will honor someone with the same enthusiasm reserved last year for the President of the Republic Mattarella, who was acclaimed almost as much as Macbeth, with six minutes of applause and the request for "encore" for his mandate.
