"Volunteering symbolizes an incalculable worth, a statement of solidarity founded on the realization that mankind shares a common destiny." On the occasion of International Volunteer Day, which was celebrated yesterday, the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, issued the following statement. "Through its varied experiences, it contributes to the cohesiveness of all societies and serves as a great tool for international collaboration and understanding. Providing assistance to people in need with generosity and self-denial develops inclusive, resilient societies based on the safeguarding of basic rights. This is shown by the widespread and spontaneous mobilization to aid populations harmed by disasters. Volunteerism is also a valuable resource for institutions, which, by expanding the engagement of civil society, may take measures that are more effective and more in line with the demands and expectations of the people. The United Nations invites Member States to involve more volunteers in responding to crises and emerging global common demands, including the battle against climate change and the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development's objectives. On this day, I extend the profound appreciation of the nation to all those who contribute to our society ".
