New names for certain ministries have been a cause of contention and acrimonious back-and-forth between the ruling coalition and the opposition ever since Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni revealed the list of ministers at the Quirinale. No exception was the legislative discussion that preceded the yes of the Chamber, with 164 votes in favor, 131 no and 2 abstentions, to the decree legislation on the rearrangement of the attributions of ministries, whose text now moves to the Senate. Without affecting the total number of ministries (currently 15), Article 1 of the measure renames five of them as follows: the Ministry of Economic Development becomes the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy; the Ministry of Agricultural, Food, and Forestry Policies becomes the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry; the Ministry of Ecological Transition becomes the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security; and the Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility becomes the Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility.
