The Italian Publishers Association released the ranking of the best-selling books in 2022. In first place is "Fabbricante di Lacrime" (Maker of Tears) by Erin Doom, an Italian writer who uses a pseudonym and who began to make herself known with the self-publishing on the Wattpad platform. Another novel written by an Italian author with an English pseudonym follows: the first volume of the romance series "Kiss me like you love me" by Kira Shell. Also the third book in the ranking, "It ends with us" by American Colleen Hoover, is a very popular romance novel, especially on TikTok, and is one of those that first began to be talked about among English-speaking accounts and then reached the Italian ones. In the United States it had been published in 2016, but in the last two years it has returned to being much bought thanks to TikTok: in 2021 768,700 copies of the novel were sold, 18 times more than those sold in 2020. In Italy, the publisher Sperling & Kupfer has chosen not to translate the title itself to take advantage of the familiarity of TikTok users with the English one. The international influence has also been in the renewed popularity of Madeline Miller's “The Achilles Song”, which presents itself as a romantic rewriting of a part of the Iliad. For some years, thanks to TikTok, this novel has been very popular and in 2022 it was the seventh best-selling book in Italy.
