The arrival of bad weather with rain and snow is a boon for dry Italy, where in the last year 30% less water has fallen, with dramatic effects on agriculture but also risks for civil and industrial uses. This is what Coldiretti says on the basis of the ISAC-CNR Institute data and in reference to the arrival of the wave of bad weather which has triggered the alert of the civil protection. At least 50 billion cubic meters of water are missing due to an extraordinarily dry 2022 despite the rainfall of the month of November, which was slightly above the historical average. Apart from inconvenience and damage, the arrival of rain and snow is therefore important to quench the thirst of dry fields caused by drought and restore water supplies in soils, reservoirs, lakes, rivers and mountains where glaciers lose their surface area and thickness. However, in order to be absorbed by the soil, rainfall must fall continuously and non-violently, while showers exacerbate the damage caused by flooding with landslides and landfalls. In Italy, part of the land of more than nine out of ten municipalities (93.9%) is at hydrogeological risk.
