In 2022, foreign travelers to Italy have doubled (+94%), marking a decisive recovery in tourism, even if arrivals remain 26% lower than in 2019, the year before the pandemic. This is what emerges from Bankitalia's data in the first nine months of the year: in this period, in fact, as many as 55.98 million travelers arrived in Italy from abroad. Almost 2 out of 3 foreign travelers arriving in Italy (72%) come from the European Union, but the figures for travelers from the United Kingdom (3.6 million) and the United States (2.2 million) are significant. 41% of foreign travelers came to Italy for holidays but there are also those who chose the Belpaese to visit relatives and friends, to go shopping or for other reasons. The positive trend of arrivals is confirmed by the expenditure that in the first nine months for foreigners was even 33.4 billion euros compared to 15.5 of the same period of the previous year and very close to 35.5 billion euros in 2019.
