Gregorio Paltrinieri, the golden boy of Italian swimming, has won again. After winning the 1,500-meter freestyle event (50m short course) at World Championships in Budapest last June, he won the short course event yesterday in Melbourne. A decisive win for the Emilian, who finished ahead of the French Damien Joly (silver in 14'19 "62) and the Norwegian Henrik Christiansen (14'24 "08). Paltrinieri, with foil player Rossella Fiamingo creates one of the most renowned couples in Italian sport, was the pre-match favorite and did not let anybody down. Paltrinieri's was Italy's first medal at the Australian World Championships, and it was quickly followed by another gold: the 4x100-meter relay, which also set a world record. With his victory in Melbourne, Paltrinieri became the only swimmer in the world to win gold twice in the short course in the longest event (the other victory came in 2014 in Doha).
