Yesterday morning, at the Protomoteca of the Rome Municipality (Campidoglio), Sinisa Mihajlovic received her last farewell. So much was the emotion of friends and personalities of Italian sport in the presence of the entire Mihajlovic family, with their children and his wife Arianna. The funeral of the Serbian champion - who died on Friday at the age of 53 after a long battle with leukemia - was held this morning in the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and of the Martyrs in Rome. In addition to being the European Champion with the Belgrade Red Star, Sinisa wore the shirts of Rome, Sampdoria, Lazio and Inter in Italy. With Lazio and Inter he collected the largest number of trophies in his career as a footballer, including two titles, four Italian Cups (that of 2005 with Inter brought his signature in the final against Rome). Precisely with the Nerazzurri, he began his career as a coach, then passed on to the benches of Bologna, Catania, Fiorentina, the Serbian national team, Milan, and Turin; after a very short experience at Sporting Lisbon, he then came to Bologna, perhaps at the best moment for the Rossoblu football club. And it was just below the two Towers of this town that the world of football discovered the battle that Mihajlovic fought against leukemia, a battle that at some point seemed to be about to be won. Unfortunately, however, things have turned out differently.
