The majority of Italians call for the repeal or reform of 18app, the 500 euro cultural incentive that the Renzi administration instituted in 2016 for people who turned 18. This is what the results of the Termometro Politico weekly poll show. 26.3% of people want to get rid of 18app because they think the one-time bonuses are a waste of money that should be spent on culture. 38.4% think the bonus should only go to 18-year-olds from low-income families. 29.4% think the bonus should stay the same as it is now. There are more opponents than supporters of the 40-day mini-military service that Senate President Ignazio La Russa has suggested. According to 31%, "we need highly skilled professional military forces and hence the 40 days would serve no purpose," while another 21.1% are opposed because "we should preach the principles of peace instead of educating how to use weapons." 20.8% of respondents believe that the mini-military service may benefit young people in terms of their professional development and character, while 24.6% go even further and call for the reinstatement of mandatory military duty for all males as it once was.
