Over half a million new books in Italian school libraries, over 2.5 million entered schools in seven years: this is the record target attained with the seventh edition of #ioleggoperché, a national movement for the development and reinforcement of school libraries. From November 5 to 13, bookshops around Italy were crowded with children, teenagers, parents, teachers, and citizens who believe in the importance of reading. The exceptional character of this edition was obvious from the start, with the participation of over four million pupils, 23,240 registered schools, 250 nurseries, and 3,275 bookshops, and is now verified in the final figures: 431,911 books given by people, another 100,000 by publishers for a total of 531,911. This program, which was started in 2016, by the Italian Publishers Association (AIE), is supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture. The amount donated has increased dramatically, rising by 24% since 2021.
