A stamp was issued to commemorate David Sassoli, President of the European Parliament until his death on January 11, 2022. According to the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso, who spoke during the presentation of the stamp, "Sassoli has been a wide-ranging politician and as President of the European Parliament has had an important, significant and enlightened path". After recalling the importance of "always having the strength to take responsibility for our actions", Urso remarked David Sassoli represented "values of transparency and morality". For the Minister, "This is the Europe that he helped to build, this is the Europe in which all citizens must recognize each other in the hour of solidarity, humanity, transparency and moral integrity". "A stamp writes in history the presence of a person, beyond the ranks: you can be presidents, ministers, but the important thing is to be honest people", says the Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani during the presentation. "I would like David Sassoli to remain impressed as a decent person, because there are many presidents, but it is more important to be decent people". For PD Secretary Enrico Letta "David Sassoli is a person who has honored his commitment in the European institutions, at a time when unfortunately some Italians have not honored their commitment in Brussels".
